The StarMOBILE and wiTECH service tools, CANcardX, and the Vector XL family of devices are pass-thru devices supported by the CDA. When running the CDA on a PC, a vehicle communication device (commonly referred to as a ‘pass-thru’ device) is also needed since the PC itself does not have the hardware necessary to communicate with a vehicle.
